NAL SWE Engineer of the Year Awards

The North Alabama Society of Women Engineers seeks to recognize outstanding engineers for their professional, academic, and leadership achievements.  The annual awards program recognizes three engineers at varying levels of their careers, outlined in the packet available below. Please consider nominating yourself, a colleague, classmate, or friend for recognition. The deadline for nomination is April 12, 2025 at 23:59 CDT.

NAL SWE Engineer of the Year – Apogee Award (Professional)

This award is given to an outstanding professional member of NAL SWE.  Professionals are defined as any working professional with 10 or more years of post-baccalaureate experience at the time of the nomination.  Awardees are selected based on their professional achievements, leadership, and community involvement.  Nominees must be members of NAL SWE and working in engineering, technology, or a related science.

NAL SWE Engineer of the Year – Ascent Award (New Professional)

This award is given to an outstanding new professional member of NAL SWE.  New professionals are defined as any working professional with less than 10 years of post-baccalaureate experience at the time of the nomination.  Awardees are selected based on professional achievements, leadership, and community involvement.  Nominees must be members of NAL SWE and working in engineering, technology, or a related science.

NAL SWE Engineer of the Year – Ignite Award (Collegiate)

This award is given to an outstanding collegiate affiliated with the North Alabama Society of Women Engineers.  Awardees are selected based on their academic performance, professional activities, community service, and leadership activities.  Nominees must be enrolled at a college or university within the NAL SWE zip code boundaries (356**, 357**, 358**) and studying engineering, technology, or a related science.

Rylynn Dallas – Apogee Award

In recognition of her exemplary dedication to mentorship and strategic impact.

Rylynn Dallas is an accomplished leader with over 20 years of experience in managing complex programs. As the Program Director at Raytheon Technologies, she oversees the deployment and sustainment of critical radar systems, driving technical advancements and ensuring operational readiness for both domestic and international military operations. Known for her expertise in managing large-scale budgets, Rylynn has consistently delivered results while maintaining fiscal discipline and improving efficiency. Rylynn is an active SWE member who fosters the development of future leaders through hands-on mentorship and STEM initiatives. In her free time, she enjoys traveling with her friends and family.

Rose Robles – Ascent Award

In recognition of her exceptional engineering achievements and commitment to outreach.

Rose Robles is a Mechanical Design Engineer at Lockheed Martin (LM) and an Engineering Leadership Development Program Class of 2024 graduate. Rose joined LM in 2019 and has held various roles across multiple programs in support of planetary and national security missions. In her current role, she designs and develops mechanical systems for spacecraft and defense applications. Rose holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Washington State University and a Master’s in Space Systems Engineering from the Johns Hopkins University. Rose serves as Space Huntsville Chair for the Professional Asian American Network and is a member of the Society of Women Engineers.

Beatriz Samur-Zuniga – Ignite Award

In recognition of her dedication to helping others while advancing her own career.

Beatriz Samur-Zuniga is graduating this May with an Industrial and Systems Engineering degree from the University of Alabama in Huntsville! She is very involved with the Engineering Ambassador program, and she also serves as the current President for the SWE section at UAH. After having internship opportunities in various industries, Beatriz will be starting her role as a Project Manager at Epic Systems in Wisconsin this June. She is also very thankful to continue pursuing her higher education, as she starts her Online Master’s Degree in Business Analytics at the Georgia Institute of Technology this Fall.

Presidential Volunteer Service Awards

North Alabama SWE is excited to be a certifying organization for the Presidential Volunteer Service Award, which is a civil award issued to honor those who have committed significant time toward volunteering. This award is available to paid North Alabama SWE members and applies to volunteer hours earned during SWE’s fiscal year (July – June). Volunteer hours from non-SWE events count towards the yearly goal. In order to be eligible, members must submit a record of their volunteer hours (a template can be provided as needed). The table below provides more information about the hours required to earn an award.
